David Silverstrom, DDS, FAGD
During his more than 28 years of performing cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Silverstrom has treated thousands of patients. "Time and again our patients tell us that they associate these five words with our practice: caring, compassion, patience, artistry, and skill," says Dr. Silverstrom who recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of his practice in Livingston, NJ.
As a thank you to the community for its loyal years of hospitality and dedication to his office, he sponsored an old-fashioned hoedown that was held in the middle of the town's business district. The atmosphere was jovial and filled with camaraderie. "Hundreds attended, most of them people whom I've treated over the years."
While residents of Livingston and the surrounding towns make up the majority of his patient roster, Dr. Silverstrom's reputation for creating a natural and inviting smile in a congenial atmosphere staffed by a group of dedicated professionals, all of whom have been with him for years, has garnered patients from all over the U.S. and abroad. He consistently receives accolades for his work, validated by being named a "Top Dentist" by Castle Connolly's peer-designated rating system.
Dr. Silverstrom received his initial dental training at New York University's College of Dentistry, followed by education courses that continue to this day. “I'm a believer in keeping up with the rapidly changing face of dentistry through on-going education,” says Dr. Silverstrom, himself an instructor of cosmetic dentistry at New York University College of Dentistry, who many years ago created three annual graduation scholarships for Livingston High School seniors. A single father of two adult children, both his son and daughter practice with him.
Despite his active professional and home life, Dr. Silverstrom makes time for community outreach programs. “Community involvement is second only to my passion for dentistry,” he says. A member of the board of directors of the Essex County Mental Health Association, he has chaired its gala black tie fundraiser in New York City that typically draws more than 300 attendees.
He is also one of the founders of the New Jersey Makeover Team, a voluntary project that showcases the skills of aesthetic medicine specialists who use their expertise to makeover deserving New Jersey residents that includes a smile enhancement, skincare, hair, makeup, and fitness program.
Dentistry, his first passion, he notes, is a melding of art and science.
"We're able to provide better dentistry in shorter periods of time because of technological advancements," he reports. His office is a testament to that statement. As new dental technologies and tools become available, he, with the help of his technically skilled staff, investigates their suitability for the practice.
"The laser, in skilled hands, is today's dental magic wand," he says. With a wave of it, he can re-sculpt an overly gummy smile to complete teeth that have been brightened and perfectly aligned thanks to ZOOM!® bleaching, Invisalign® braces, all porcelain veneers, crowns, and tooth-colored fillings. "You won't sacrifice the translucency associated with the teeth Mother Nature gave you because the materials we have available today are just as life-like."
Another technology that few dentists offer, perhaps 5 percent in the nation, is the CEREC® technology which allows him to create a precise ceramic restoration right in his office while the patient waits no more than an hour. Speaking of waiting, appointments are so efficiently scheduled that most individuals don’t have time to even glance at a waiting room magazine.
